Summer Travel Teams

PAGS organizes summer travel teams – this is a great opportunity for girls who LOVE softball and who really want to improve their softball playing ability. In 2008 we fielded 14U, 12U, and 10U travel teams.

           

Here’s a brief description of what the summer travel season is all about:

• The summer travel team usually plays in local weekend tournaments – usually within 1-2 hour drive.
• The team will practice 2-3 times per week with each practice approximately 2 hours long.
• Weekend tournaments usually involve 1-3 games on Saturday and 1-3 games on Sunday, sometimes one game on Friday. Basically, your whole weekend is spent either playing softball or hanging around the tournament waiting to play softball.
• Games are played against other local teams from neighboring towns (primarily the Bay Area)
• The team will have approximately 12 players on the roster.
• Everyone plays but infield positions and sometimes playing time are earned and based on demonstrated ability.
• The cost of the season for Summer 2007 was $450 for each player – covers tournament registration fees, uniforms, equipment, umpire/field fees, etc. For Summer 2008 we anticipate that the cost will be $400-650 per player. The higher estimate is based on coaching fees that would be incurred if we are able to retain Stanford players as coaches.

The level of play is high and the games are very competitive. I encourage you (and your daughter) to consider summer travel team. It’s tremendously fun and a great “team” experience – the kids really bond as a group. By the end of the season, the kids who play improve so much that they are essentially COMPLETELY different softball players.
