Volunteers

PAGS is a volunteer-based organization. We rely on the generosity and goodwill of our benefactors, sponsors and many many volunteers to manage our league, provide scholarships to anyone in need, coach our teams and otherwise complete the many many tasks that must be done before, during and after each softball season.

What is the expectation from each family?

Each family is expected to contribute. There are three main ways: donate, sponsor and volunteer. In addition, for those families with too much going on to volunteer, there is an opt-out fee option. Information on the opt-out option can be found here. More information on donating or sponsoring a team can be found here or contact us at sponsors@paloaltogirlssoftball.org.

What are the volunteer options?
  1. Team Manager / Head Coach
  2. Team Coach
  3. Recruiting Lead
  4. Board Member

The above list summarizes some of our most important volunteer roles. Additional information on each is provided below. Want to help in some other way or have additional questions, please reach out to any of the board members listed here.

How do I let PAGS know about my volunteer preferences and skills?

New this season PAGS is collecting volunteer preferences in the TeamSnap registration form. This is the best way to help us understand how you prefer to contribute so we can try to match your skills and interests with our most critical open positions. Not sure if you shared your preferences at registration, want to make a change or have more to share? Please drop us a note at volunteers@paloaltogirlssoftball.org.

More about the volunteer options

1. Team Manager / Head Coach (softball/baseball knowledge required; training available for new/beginning and advanced coaches)
Team Managers / Head Coaches are responsible for softball instruction and coaching during practices and games and are critical to our success. They manage their teams and create the lineups and practice plans. They also help mentor/develop less experienced coaches.

All coaches will have access to great training and mentoring resources, free use of the cages and full reimbursement of the cost of the annual background check and ACE training certification. Head Coaches are also permitted to identify a co-head coach or assistant that we will try to pair you with as well as practice day and game preferences to facilitate scheduling.

2. Team Coach / Assistant Coach (no softball knowledge required; training available for new/beginning and advanced coaches)
Team Coaches / Assistant Coaches supports the Team Manager / Head Coach. Experience is helpful but not necessary. Team Coaches often help lead or get parent volunteers to cover pre-game activities like field prep and warm-ups and make sure the snacks and drinks are ready after the game. They also help with social events like the team kick-off party, Stanford Softball game picnic, end-of-season party etc.

3. Recruiting Lead (no softball knowledge required)
Recruiting Leads help promote PAGS and drive registrations through their assigned schools. Activities typically include working with school/pta to determine the best way to reach interested kids, targeted outreach by email and phone, posting in school newsletters, putting up signs, distributing flyers, posting or promoting PAGS in Nextdoor etc.

4. Board Member
Board Members help improve PAGS for more than one season. Open board positions are listed here. The PAGS Board typically meets once per month by Zoom with additional work done between meetings based on the role and season. Critical open positions are listed below.
